This data is intended to highlight the ends of the spectrum to illustrate what's possible. The ideal transformation for most people is a blend of fat loss and muscle gain. For example, you may want to lose 20 pounds of fat AND build 10 pounds of new lean muscle to achieve your dream body. This is effectively called the recomposition process, where during most phases you (especially newbies) can lose fat and build muscle AT THE SAME TIME. Pretty cool stuff what our bodies can do when given the right inputs at the right time!

From Belly To Beast

MEET ALEX

Alex is an IT consulting executive who let his body go during the Covid pandemic and didn't like what he saw in the mirror everyday, which was negatively impacting his energy levels and self-confidence. 

ACTION

He decided it was time to take control and fix his situation before it got worse.

GOALS

  • Drop body fat
  • Increase muscle size and definition
  • ​Be proud instead of embarrassed to take his shirt off

STRUGGLES

NUTRITION PLAN

  • We calculated his nutrition targets and created meal plans aligned to his targets to start getting immediate results in Week 1 and the overall ball rolling quickly
  • ​After he learned how to hit his targets eating foods he liked, he was independent of a meal plan and had the freedom to track towards his targets eating or drinking whatever he wanted
  • ​We also sprinkled in some intermittent fasting to throw gas on the fire at times, but not on a regular consistent basis.

TRAINING PLAN

  • We built out a strength training plan progressing in 4-week phases, optimizing for speed of results and recovery (3-4 workouts per week for 45 minutes)
  • This kept progress moving and plateaus at bay, while having all workouts planned on the calendar
  •  Having the plan on the calendar drives confidence (by knowing what to do and how to do it ahead of time) and consistency (workouts are scheduled and part of a bigger plan)

MINDSET & HABITS

  • We worked on creating a progress-over-perfection growth mindset to stay on track while balancing life's crazy priorities
  • With the mindset shift came developing new habits that work without permission at the subconscious level to help speed up overall progress
  • A critical habit in the overall equation is sleep. Often underrated, the difference in results between 6 and 9 hours of sleep is MASSIVE when training and nutrition are aligned and working together.
